DESIGN SYSTEM & OPS

Problem - The company struggled to efficiently manage design elements, standardized assets, and documentation across all product lines. Designers spent excessive time communicating specifications to developers, leading to inefficiencies and challenges in understanding the design workflow.

Role - Stakeholder, Design Director, and Project Lead. Teams Involved - Product, Engineer, QA, and Design

Solution - As the Design Director and project initiator, I led the development of the "Fruit - FriendFinder UI Kit," an innovative and comprehensive design system aimed at streamlining collaboration between stakeholders, product managers, and developers. The system incorporated a unified set of assets, processes, and guidelines, including UI kits with tokens, variables, variants, and prototyping, enhancing consistency and flexibility. Additionally, we aligned the system with Material Design principles to support new implementations and scalability.

Impact - By identifying key gaps in the design process, I drove the creation of a standardized system that bridged designers and front-end engineers. We consolidated 12 different design resources into a single source of truth, revitalized the brand, and implemented a new workflow for over 100 engineers, 6 product managers, and 20 designers. This change led to a more efficient design process and resulted in a significant multi-million dollar annual revenue impact.
